November 1999
Hello Everyone,
We have a very busy month ahead of us. Some official business to attend to also. Make sure you send your renewals in before November 10th. Would love to see all of you next year.
We need for you to vote for your officers and member of the year. If you can’t make it to our 2nd meeting in November, please send in your ballot via snail mail (sorry Monty!) It’s important that you participate.
We have several events this month that should prove to be fun. The Bowling Party on the 14th and the drive out to the Lakeridge Winery on the 20th. I believe that the winery is having a jazz festival that day. We will try to arrange for us to have special parking when we get there.
We also are planning, as usual, the drive out to the Turkey Rod Run on November 26th. We are trying to meet a little early to get over there for parking purposes. I know 7am on your day off is early, but think of all the goodies you can buy!
Our second meeting in December will be at Michael’s on east 50. Meeting time 7:30.
A big THANK YOU to everyone that helped out with the homecomings this year. I don’t have the final figures yet, but I think we will be able to give a healthy check to Mrs. Russell in December.
Our web site www.cfca.net, is out there for all of you to enjoy. Hutch and Susan have done a great job! Remember to send your pictures to Hutch so he can update the web page.
This year is almost over and thanks to all of you, it has been ‘The Best Year Yet!’
Happy Thanksgiving !

Greetings Membership!!!
Here it is, November already. The holidays are approaching fast. We have had such a wonderful year and next year promises to be even better. Since the October Newsletter we have had 4 more people join CFCA. Please join me in welcoming Robert Loeffler & Renee Travis, Tom Hytry and Wes Rose! Robert & Renee are restoring their 71 Stingray. Wes has a 78 Pace Car (that makes 2 in our club now) and Tom has a very "unusual" 99 Hardtop- the unusual part is it was delivered to him with a Heads Up Display installed! Hang on to that Tom, it may be a one of a kind!!!
This month is going to be a busy one. If you cannot attend the November 18, 1999 meeting (elections), please be aware that absentee ballots MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 12, 1999.
Also, if you have not yet renewed your membership dues, please note that the deadline has been changed. I have received my Membership Renewal package from the Regional Membership Director and I can extend the deadline for renewal dues to November 10th. Please mail your check to me (don’t forget to fill out the survey).
Renewal dues are:
Family $50 - Single $35
Please mark your calendars for
these important dates!!
The next big road trip for CFCA is right around the corner. Islamorada & Key West here we come!!! Last years trip was so much fun it should have been illegal. In fact, I’m almost sure some of it was! On top of having way too much fun, our club brought home 7 (count’em) 7 trophies! One was the Club Participation Trophy. Hopefully we can bring that same trophy home again this year!
I would like to take a moment and thank all of the members who have already sent in their renewal dues and took the time to fill out the survey. I will gather all the information from the surveys I get and they will be reviewed at our next board meeting. As I have said many times over, this is YOUR club, you are the ones who make it great. You are the reason CFCA has been the largest NCCC sanctioned club in the Region for many years now. You are the reason others want to be a part of our family. We, the Board, are here simply to keep things going in the right direction and only you can guide us in that direction. Remember everyone, when your write that renewal check out, make a commitment to yourself to come out to more meetings and events and get to know your fellow Corvette enthusiasts.
We have been discussing meeting on the East side of town for our members who live on the coast and as of the last meeting, we have decided to meet at Michael's Restaurant on East SR 50 on the following dates:
December 16, 1999 - March 16, 2000 - June 15, 2000
September 21, 2000 - December 21, 2000
These dates will be recorded on the VetteLine.
That is all I have for this month.

Secretary's Report will no longer be posted to the CFCA website.
Members should refer to their printed copy of the CFCA Review
for the minutes of the most recent general meetings.
As most of you that attended last meeting remember, the news on the NCCC front for the month of November is mainly tied to National Council election of officers, selection of a site for the 2001 National Convention and other house keeping items relating to by-law changes and such. House keeping items and election of officers aside, the selection of the 2001 convention site promises to be interesting. The bids include an ocean cruise out of Miami, as well as bids from the San Diego and Bowling Green Cities. While I know that most in the Southeast and Midwest areas are voting for Bowling Green, I would not count San Diego out of the running at this time. As many of you know, Bowling Green has a lot going for it but there are a ton of people in the Far West areas that would like nothing more than to kick their heels up in the beautiful city of San Diego. While I think that the ocean cruise could be a lot of fun, its so different that I think a lot of people just don’t know what to think of it as a venue for a convention. I don’t know, its too close for me to call at this time. I have voted CFCA’s choice, "Bowling Green". As many of us know, its one heck of a lotta fun caravaning to Kentucky.
Well its finally here. Islamorada. Fun in the sun and on the beach. Car show types can polish till their arms fall off on this one. Its so neat that so many in our club have become addicted to making the trip south. All of the talk, the hype and saucy pictures don’t do it justice, you just gotta be there to experience it for yourself.
Speaking of club members, there are so many new members lately. I can’t say enough about how excited your Board of Officers is about this occurrence. It is so important to the vitality of the club to have a growing membership. I take great pride in knowing that I am in the largest and best club in the State. As I, and other members of your Board attend Regional meetings, we see envy from other clubs that do not share the same growth as your CFCA. So, I say to all of you, get out and shake some hands and get to know one another. For instance, strike up a conversation with new member David Valdez. Ask him about his love of photography. You will get quite a surprise. Additionally, some of our veteran members have a few stories to tell as well. Get out, meet someone and participate. Its fun, and that’s what this club is all about.

November is Military Appreciation Month
Held in conjunction with Veteran’s Day, the NCM has once again designated the entire month of November as "Military Appreciation Month". According to Wendell Strode, the NCM’s Executive Director, "the Corvette signifies the choice of freedom we are so privileged to enjoy. This special automobile is an icon of freedom and American pride, and we want to take time to show our respect and gratitude to the Military personnel who make this possible".
Visit the NCM On-Line
Even if you can’t be there, don’t miss out on a chance to visit the Museum on the web! There are four "webcams" that are constantly showing live updates on the website. The cameras give a good view of the Atrium, the Delivery Area, the SkyDome, and the front of the NCM grounds.
Museum to Auction the first 2000 Corvette!
The NCM has purchased the first Y2K off the line, VIN#00001, as a fundraiser. It’s a coupe with the new ‘dark bowling green metallic" paint, automatic, and performance axle. Open bidding will end at 4:00PM CST on December 1st, after which top bidders will participate in an oral auction to finalize the winning bid. The highest bid so far is over $80,000. Delivery will take place on January 1, 2000 to the person with the winning bid.
Membership Grows
In September of 1998, the NCM had 2,706 active members. One year later, in September of 1999, the count rose to 4,594.
