PRESIDENT'S REPORT

October 1999

Hello Everyone,

Oh, I feel so much better now! The Caravan and Labor Day event is now history and we all had a wonderful time. Can't say I have ever seen that many Corvettes in one place before. It was estimated 6,000 Corvettes were in attendance and 60,000 people. Now our next big sleep over event is Islamorada. If this event lives up to years past experiences, this should also prove to be an event not to be missed. If all of my calculations are correct, there will be at least two 2000 convertibles in attendance and entered into the show. CFCA should fair well again in the award category. We have taken home a club award almost every year we have attended and it keeps getting bigger. Let's do the same this year!!

There are plenty of events in-between that you can attend if you can't make Islamorada. Ecklers is shaping up to be something different this year. More of a carnival atmosphere. There will be a variety of games and they are all $1 to play. You will also receive tickets for the door prizes. After the cost of the tent is covered all the proceeds go to the Russell Home, so come on out and support our charity.

Also, we all need to think about Member of the Year award. Who helped our club reach its goals? Who was there when you needed a helping hand? Contact the chairperson of the nomination committee and submit your suggestion for 1999 member of the year. ( I think Jerry Smith MAY be out of the hunt this year!)

October will be the month for our supply drive for the Russell Home. Any sheets, towels, cleaning supplies, clothes or extra linens you may have, donate them this month to the Russell Home. Our plan is to present Mrs. Russell with these supplies and a check sometime in November. This will be a club event and a caravan. And, of course, we will get a bite to eat somewhere afterwards. Any suggestions in this regard, please let me know.

Our second meeting in December will be at Michael's on east 50. Meeting time 7:30.

It was also suggested that every couple of months we have a dinner meeting over in east Texas so our Titusville friends can join us and not have to drive to west Texas. Bring any other suggestions in regards to this matter to our next meeting.

Car Order Update: The two new additions to our fine club should be on a train or truck on their way to Florida by the time you read this. Hoping to take delivery before Ecklers, so there is another reason to come out and have fun with us. AHHHH…. that new car smell…the acceleration….those soft leather seats!!

Our web site www.cfca.net, is out there for all of you to enjoy. Hutch and Susan have done a great job! Remember to send your pictures to Hutch so he can update the web page.

Remember this will be 'The Best Year Yet!'

MEMBERSHIP REPORT

Happy Halloween CFCA!

I am struggling with the fact that October is here. There is a lot of truth to the saying "Time flies when you are having fun!"

This past year has been GREAT (for both Gary & I). When we joined CFCA 3 years ago, it was my first time ever having belonged to a club of any kind and I really didn't know what to expect. The friendships that have been made over these couple of years we wouldn't trade for anything, not even a 2000 Millennium Yellow Corvette! You see, the cars are great but the friendships are what make this hobby invaluable. Thank you CFCA for all the love and caring you have shown us over the last 3 years.

To all of our new members, my advice to you is jump in with both feet. Participate in our events, come out to the meetings and get to know your fellow members. CFCA grows stronger every day because of people like YOU. As we approach the end of 1999, think back on this year and the different events we have done. What would you like to do that we have not done yet? What would you like to do again? Bring your suggestions to the upcoming meetings and tell us your ideas. We are always looking for new places to go with our cars. Remember folks, this is YOUR club! Lets make next year even more exciting and successful that this year.

Membership Update

To date we have 113 members! Wow, I believe that is a CFCA record! We continue to get numerous inquires from the website and the VetteLine. We also continue to have several guests attending our meetings.

Everyone please join me in welcoming all of our new members to CFCA...

David Valdez, Eric Schwartz & Tammy Ennis, Robert J. Kopp, Jim Harte, and John & Barbara Rzepiennik

Nuptials!! On September 25th. two more CFCA members were married!!! Randy Beck and Sara Markusfeld tied the knot!

Congratulations Randy and Sara !

Merchandise Update

Everyone who has ordered a Cutter & Buck Eckler's shirt I have them in. I also have the tank tops in. Please pick your order up from me at the next meeting.

Year to date so far $203.00 worth of club merchandise has been sold. I still have the following for sale:

Year 2000 Renewals

I have GREAT news... Renewal dues for the year 2000 will remain the same as last year. The deadline for renewals is November 4th. (our first meeting in November). If you cannot make it to the next 3 meetings, please fill out the Renewal Form included in this newsletter and mail it to me by 11/4/99.

I would love to see EVERYONE in our club renew their membership this year (my second personal goal) but I understand circumstances, relocations, etc. demand otherwise. This year I would like to try something a little different that I don't think has been done before.

Along with the enclosed Renewal Form is a short Survey. Please take a few minutes and fill this out. Either bring it to a meeting or mail it to me. If you wish to remain anonymous, don't fill in the name section. The only way we can improve is by you telling us what we can do better. Don't be shy!

Thank you for making CFCA such a wonderful club to be associated with. We have had a very successful year so far and we could not have done it without you!

That's all for now - SAVDWAV

GOVERNOR'S REPORT

Hey folks, having just attended the Florida Region meeting I report the following items of interest:

The CFCA is still far and away the largest NCCC Club in the State. At 109 members we’re still strong and we’re only going to get better. While I know that this year isn’t even finished yet, your board is already planning for new and interesting things for 2000. New members continue to be a big part of our club and are contributing in ways that truly make the club a fun organization with which to be affiliated.

We finally have some partial news as to the results of the NCCC Newsletter Contest. We know, for instance who won places 1 through 5, but little else. NCCC can tell you who was in it, but no other information on how everyone else placed. As you may know, Gary Wollenhaupt entered our CFCA newsletter into the competition and I for one think he did one hell of a job. Its not an easy task and I know this from first hand experience. A word of thanks every now and then to Gary for his efforts certainly makes the work more rewarding for him. (Boone Trail Corvette Club won the contest)

In other news, NCCC has been negotiating with GM for the legal use of it’s Chevrolet and Corvette logos. These arrangements may be all wrapped up by November. At that time all NCCC clubs may use the logos in their respective club emblems, stationary and any other material they chose. The limit being that these items are not to be openly marketed for reasons other than club and NCCC use.

At National Convention this past July, the raffle car was sold back to the dealer by the winner. While the winner originally thought that he might keep the car, a change of mind occurred after he talked to his tax man. As the story goes, he sold the thing back to the dealer for $20,000. Wish I could have bought the new 99 for that little. Additionally, NCCC profited by $15,000 on the car and has turned that money over to our national charity, the National Kidney Foundation.

The National Convention did good this year in Denver. That is good in the sense that they did not lose any money, and in all fairness I understand that the host club did indeed put on a very good week long event. When done right, these events can be a whale of a good time. Which brings me to the next related subject. Programs are being submitted for the 2001 National Convention. The proposed sites are Miami (Sea Cruise), San Diego, California and Bowling Green, Kentucky. I will be discussing this issue with you during an upcoming club meeting.

Florida region officers for the coming year are set and our very own Lisa Lafferty has agreed to hold down the important post of treasurer. This further solidifies the CFCA presence in the Region and we should all be proud of Lisa’s contribution. The NCCC board of officers is also just about to be fixed for the coming year as soon as ballots are sent to the club Governors.

Lastly, it appears certain that the North Florida Group is again going to repeat the car show in St. Augustine next year. This event will be held at the Hall of Fame Golf Resort on the first Saturday before Father’s Day. For those of you that did not go this year, plan on it for 2000. In no other event have the accommodations been so nice and in such a great setting. (The Florida Keys aside. The Keys are the greatest.)

Next to lastly, a word of encouragement to Bette Ashe. We love ya gal, keep at it and get well soon.

Jon Gardner

OCTOBER CHARITY DRIVE

It’s time to start accumulating your donations for the Russell Home for Atypical Children. We’ll be collecting goods during October and will be planning a drive-out in November to deliver our collected items along with a check from CFCA to Mrs. Russell.

If you’ve never visited the Russell Home, this is an ideal opportunity to help make a difference in the lives of these wonderful people.

IT’S HOMECOMING SEASON!

Each year, CFCA participates in many high school homecomings.
This is our primary source of income for the year and the
major source of income to help support CFCA’s charity,
the Russell Home for Atypical Children.

These events are a lot of fun to do, but in order
to make them successful we need YOUR help!

For more information on how YOU can help,
contact CFCA’s Homecoming Chairperson, Shelley Schwartz
