PRESIDENT'S REPORT
Hello Everyone,
MEMBERSHIP REPORT
Greetings All!

GOVERNOR'S REPORT
Hello to all CFCA Members:
Jon
COMPETITION REPORT
Its late, I don't feel well, I have an early flight out of town in the morning for a week long business trip, and to make matters worse, my Corvette still isn't done yet! Arrrggghhhh!!! One would think a little thing like chopping the top off a Z06 would be a snap. Oh well, good things come to those who wait they say. So with all that in mind, lets get on with this month's report.

Here we are, smack at the start of Corvette's 50th Anniversary Celebration. We're rapidly approaching the end of CFCA's 29th year and looking forward to our 30th Anniversary in 2003. Corvette's stellar reputation as America's Sports Car continues to garner new customers - customers who never have owned a Corvette, and we anxiously await the introduction of the next generation "C6". NCCC membership hovers over the 15,000 mark but perhaps even more interesting is that the National Corvette Museum's list of members has already grown to over 14,500! Look out NCCC!
CONTRIBUTED ARTICLE
For the last six months or so, I have been researching my husbands ancestors and have become completely absorbed in the information to be had on the internet. As I was pondering an article for this months newsletter, I thought about our club going into its 30th year and decided to dig out the old membership history files. I hope you enjoy it!
MARKETPLACE

There's nothing better than being in the back of a line of Corvettes traveling down any highway. We had a great turnout for the Mount Dora outing this last Sunday. Except for the brief...lite… rain shower, it was a perfect day!!
If you missed the last meeting we have added an event for August. On the 17th we will be going to the Lakeridge Winery for the August grape stomping festival. There is a small admission fee of $2 and there will be music and of course, wine tasting. Look in the events calendar for time and place information.
The board meeting has been rescheduled for August the 4th to discuss the possibility of another show out at Pointe Orlando and also to discuss the upcoming homecoming season. This will take place at my house and will start around 1P.M. If you would like to attend let me know and I can get you directions.
Another event that is fast approaching is the drive-out to Chalet Suzanne and the Bok Towers. This will be on August 25th. A meeting time and place has not been set yet but when it is available we will send out a reminder.
I know that next June seems a long way away but it will be here before you know it. I have information on some caravan 2003 merchandise if anyone is interested. I will try to have some samples soon. I would love to see you at the next meeting.
Our website, www.cfca.net, is out there for all of you to enjoy. It's become a major part of our clubs membership and one easy way to get the word out. Hutch, Joe and Gary have done a great job! Remember to send in your pictures to so they can update the web page.
Until next month… Save The Wave

Everyone have just about all the rain they can stand? The first seven months of 2002 are in the history books and those HOT August nights are upon us.
A little further on in this newsletter look for an article on the membership history of our club. I think you will find it very interesting :)
We had a good amount of members at our last meeting and an incredible about of guests. Two of our guests were from Scotland and (get this) saw our "Club of the Month" article in the Corvette Fever Magazine a few months back and decided to look us up while they were here in Orlando on holiday - how cool is that??? - even better… it seems they're thinking of joining us in the Keys for Corvettes in Paradise in November! Cheers!
We had three people join CFCA at the last meeting. Please join me in welcoming the following members to our family:
Rich of Orlando who drives a 1989 black coupe and Bill and Mary Ann from Windermere who drives a 2002 convertible.
There are several new members who have not picked up their club badges from me. Please remember to see me for yours at an upcoming meeting.
That's all for now!
See you down the road…

There was a strange occurrence at our last meeting. Lots of people attending our bi-monthly meeting, while concurrently, a Classic's sales meeting/training meeting was being held in our usually unused meeting room. To all that had to stand, we apologize. This only happens several times a year and we just make a small adjustment and move on. Classic Chevrolet is one of the best Chevy and Corvette dealerships in Central Florida, and we owe this particular dealership a round of applause. Providing us with a meeting place is so much appreciated that we can't say thanks enough. After all, having a Corvette Club meeting in a place other than a Chevy dealership just wouldn't seem right.
By now the 2002 NCCC National Convention in Indianapolis is history. These parties, held each year, are a hoot to attend and seem to offer something for everybody. Each year the convention is held in a different city around the country in hopes that members from all regions get a chance to eventually attend one of these events. The venue for the 2004 event looks like it may be in Las Vegas. The competition is tough though, as it has to compete with Brainerd, Minnesota for the chance to host this important party. HA ---.
One thing I forgot to mention at our last several meetings is that NCCC is in the process of ordering 50th Anniversary patches for all members. These will be issued with all membership packages that are sent out at the first of each year. The year 2003 will be huge for Corvette owners. The 50th Anniversary of the Corvette and all of the events that will happen around the country to celebrate this event is one that you will not want to let pass you by. Like I said at the last meeting, stay in touch. Chevrolet's web site "www.corvette50th.com" is a good place to start. Additionally, our own club web page, "www.cfca.net", is another. From our web page you will find links to the National Corvette Museum and the Florida Caravan. Again, find something that suites your schedule and interest.
One last thing. As each of you are members of the National Council of Corvette Clubs, know that our parent organization is strong with over 15,000 members and that your CFCA club is far and away the largest in the Florida Region.
Hope to see you at our next meeting,
John "Hutch" Hutchinson
July was both hot and wet but that didn't keep many CFCA members down. The CFCA Beach Weekend and Eckler's Sterling Casino Cruise was great fun for all that could attend (and even profitable for a lucky few). Once again, Eckler's came through with some great door prizes for us, even though overall attendance was down from previous years. The threat of bad weather may have scared some off but its important that we continue to show support for those that support us! Keep an eye on upcoming Eckler's Special Event Days.
Due to an office party and the aforementioned illness, yours truly was unable to attend either of July's other events… the Russell Home Drive-Out or the Lakeside Inn Brunch. I have it on good authority that those who participated had a great time, in spite of some inclement weather.
The CFCA Drive-Out to Chalet Suzanne for Brunch and Bok Tower Gardens visit is scheduled for Sunday, AUGUST 25th, not September. That promises to be a great drive-out event so we hope to see a lot of you there. We have an ice skating event and more fun things to do coming up in the near future so keep an eye on the newsletter and web site calendar for details!
If you have not yet registered for the Corvettes in Paradise show being held Nov 2nd at Islamorada, Florida Keys, you should do so right away. Read the info online at www.cfca.net/events/keys02.htm or contact Patti Hutchinson, event sponsor, for more details. This event is tremendous fun and should not be missed!
Each club event needs a chairperson to help organize it so why not volunteer? And if you have an idea for a future CFCA event, please pass along your suggestions to me or any other Board Member.
CFCA awards active participation in club events by presenting awards at our annual Christmas Party based on total points earned throughout the year. See the Members Only section of the web site for current points standings. Board Members do not compete with the regular membership for points.
Remember... keep the shiny side up!!!

As you may have figured out over the years, I'm somewhat of a "statistics nut". I thoroughly enjoyed reading Joan's article on CFCA Membership History as this issue was being put together. Don't miss it - it starts on page 30. Of course, reading those "stats" set me off. I often get questions from our members about the "profile" of CFCA and since we don't yet publish vehicle information in our Membership Roster, I thought you might find some this interesting. So here we go again, something I've done once or twice a year, another installment of "By The Numbers".
Corvettes by Generation.
C4's remain in the lead with slightly over 71% of the club's Corvettes! CFCA currently has six solid-axles, seven midyears, twenty-three sharks, forty-one C5's, and forty-nine C4's.
Coupe? Roadster?
What's the club preference? Well - it's the COUPE with 56%. We have seventy coupes, compared to 50 convertibles. Not included in the count are five FRC or Z06's (at least the "unmodified ones").
Color?
James Schefter's outstanding book, "All Corvettes Are Red", is said to have gotten its name from a comment made during an early 90's discussion of colors for the future. The quote was from John Heinricy (then leading Corvette's development group of test drivers) - he's reported to have said, "Why are we even having this discussion? All Corvettes are red. The rest are mistakes". Whether true or not, CFCA's color preference is clearly RED - there are 36 in the club (nearly 29% overall) of various hues; Torch, Ruby, Carmine, and Magnetic. What holds the number two spot? It's BLUE, with 19, representing the following variations: Horizon, Jewel, Admiral, Marina, Midnight, Nassau, Navy, Quasar, and the newest - Electron Blue.
What model years does CFCA account for?
It'd be simpler to answer with what CFCA doesn't account for. Our club has at least one of every year Corvette represented EXCEPT 1953-1958, 1964, 1970, 1973, 1980, and 1997. Our oldest is Mark's 1959 (and reportedly the oldest 1959 in existence!) What years are MOST represented? It's 1999 with 13 C5's. The "most popular" years (with no less than five Corvettes) are each of 1992 through 2002 (except for 1997). The greatest number of C1's is 1960 (3). C2's is 1965 (3), C3's is 1978 and 1982 (4 each), C4's is 1996 (12). Model years 1996, 1999, and 2000 account for 20% of the club's Corvettes.
Well, not satiated by that exercise, I started to look at our club's preference for events. After all, we're constantly soliciting input from the membership for event suggestions, new ideas, and feedback. I looked at our current "Points Sheet", and noted some of the events we've had on the calendar since the start of this year, then tried to classify them by event type and how our members turned out to support the event. Here's what I came up with. Percentages are based on our current membership of 172.
Charity events (such as the Russell Home Fun run, Garage Sale, Cruisers for Kids, etc.) led with an average of about 28 members (16% of our total membership) participating. The most well attended event was the Russell Home (Harley) Fun Run in January with 51 members supporting the event.
Special Club events (such as the Beach Weekend, Daytona Motorsports, Bowling, and the Governor's Run) was second on the list with an average of 19 members participating (about 11% of our total membership) per event.
Car Shows (such as Reflections in Glass, Lady Lake, Port Canaveral, Ecklers, World Golf Village, NCRS, Vettes at the Rock, etc.) followed closely with an average of 18 members participating (about 10%) per event. The most well attended event was the NCRS Winter Meet in January with 31 members attending.
Overall top events so far this year have been the Russell Home Run (51), the Anniversary Party (37), NCRS at the Hyatt (31), the Governor's Run (29), Vettes at the Rock (28), Cruisers for Kids (26 despite a conflict with Sebring), and Wonderful World of Corvettes (25). Among our endless search for food, the driveout to Dixie Crossroads was tops with 21 members attending.
Interesting numbers … which I suspect imply a couple of messages: Continue to bring your event ideas and suggestions to our Board. Take a break. Gas up the Vette and hit the road at some of our upcoming events!
Our club is the sum total of our members. Higher levels of participation not only increase the fun (imagine the sight of 40 or 50 Corvettes running down the road together, compared to 15) but has an indirect benefit on some of our other efforts. The club looks bigger, better, and more enthusiastic to the public. Our 50/50 funds increase with participation, so our charities benefit. And we'll all have the opportunity to get to know each other better!
That's all for now… "By the Numbers"
See you down the road

As most of you know, Central Florida Corvette Association, Inc. was formed in May of 1973 as a non-profit organization.
During our very first year in existence the club grew to 43 members. The second year records show that 19 of the original 43 members renewed and 20 new members joined.
When a new member joins the club they are given a membership number that identifies our club (FL-186) and the individual member to NCCC (we call it an FL number). The very first number issued by this club was FL186-0001. At our last meeting I issued membership number FL186-0779, which means we have had 779 members come and go over the past 29 years and that averages out to about 26 new members per year.
The years with the least amount of new members joining this club are:
1987 - with 3 new members
The years with the greatest amount of new members joining this club are:
1990 - with 10 new members
1991 - with 8 new members
1999 - with 57 new members
In May of 1999, CFCA's membership rose to over 100 members for the first time in club history, then by the end of 2001, we had over 200 members. Another first!
2000 - with 59 new members
2001 - with 53 new members
Over the past 29 years (including this year), our club has had 32 Presidents, 18 different people. Nine held the position only once and nine held the position multiple times. Of our eighteen different Presidents, six are still members of CFCA.
This great club has thrived over the last 29 years because of the members who have volunteered as club officers, board members and chair-people. Without those people, the club would not exist.
In recent history I know that our current President, Lisa, has held this position four times and has been our Membership Director at least two times. She has also headed up the Charity committee. Jon our Governor has been so for the last four years and I know from old newsletters that he was the Newsletter Editor in (I think) 1989. Jon also served as our President once upon a time. Pat has been our club Treasurer since 98/99 and has brought our books up to such impeccable standards that we have been able to produce a budget for the past three years! Hutch has been our Competition Director for the last two years and has built and maintained our current website for longer than that. Gary has been producing, copying, folding, stapling and mailing your monthly newsletter since 1998. He has also been Competition Director in 1999 and has been our NCM Ambassador since 1999. Shelley has worked endless hours for the last three years or more coordinating all of the homecomings for us so we could give the money we raised to the Russell Home. CFCA has donated over $10,000 to the Russell Home over the last several years and the bulk of that money came from those of you who helped with the homecomings.
As for me, I'm about to conclude my third term as Membership Director and second year as Charity Committee Chair. There are countless others who have volunteered in one way or another to help this club become what it is today, and to all of you I say THANK YOU for making a difference!
The real reason behind my babbling on for so long is simple. As you may know, most of your current Board of Directors are at the end of their term and cannot run for the position next year. As our club turns 30 and the Corvette turns 50, we need you to consider running for a Board position. 2003 is going to be a very exciting year!! We need new leaders and new ideas. That's what keeps this club growing. If you would consider running for a board position and have questions, please don't hesitate to ask any one of us on the current Board. We will be more than happy to answer your questions.
On behalf of the existing Board of Directors, our claim to fame is almost over - we need YOU to carry this club into its 30th year and beyond - we need YOU to be a part of this clubs history!
Save the Wave!!
