Hello Everyone,
It's a sad time for the American public, but as Americans we will overcome this terrible act against us. Our sympathy goes out to everyone who may have had a relative or friend in the World Trade Center, Pentagon, or P.A. Our best goes out to Pete Malzone and his family; they had a relative in the W.T.C.
Our homecoming season is upon us, by the time you read this we will have done four of them. I want to thank the members that came out to help. With the amount of members we have, it would be nice to see some new faces. Two new members did come out to help at Lake Highland Prep. Thank You! Shelley is working hard to get cars out to each homecoming, thanks to the members that are chairing some of the homecomings. This is our biggest fund-raiser for the Russell Home. If you have been to the Russell Home, you understand why we work so hard to raise this money.
Now for the lighter side, there are some great events coming up. Let's get out and have some fun, life is what you make it. We have a great bunch of people in our club so check your calendar and join in.
Don't forget it's time to nominate member of the year and our new Board for 2002. If you would like to see some new things happen, have someone nominate you. Our membership is at an all time high of 187. I think our great web-site has a lot to do with the membership increase and our members handing out cards to Vette owners is a good idea.
Let's Go For It
God Bless America!

We have 187 members to date. Our newest members are Roger Graham, he owns a 1996 Sebring Silver Collector Coupe. Bill and Diane Zatloukal, they own a 2001 Pewter Coupe. Debra Roberts, she owns a 1995 Competition Yellow convertible. You should all recognize Debra; she often accompanies Mike Lindsay to the meetings. Robert and Patty McKey, they own a 1996 Grand Sport. I know this makes Hutch very happy…one more skunk to tend with!! And last but not least, Arch and Sandy Simonson, they own a 2000 Magnetic Red Convertible. I've been very busy over the last month, lets make them all feel at home so introduce yourself when you see them.
You will find a renewal form in this newsletter and in the next . Please go ahead and fill out the form and write that check to CFCA to renew for 2002. If you have any questions, please see me before you write your check. I'd love to see 100% renewal this year. We have a great club and it's all due to its members. We have a lot more fun to be had this year and I'm sure it will overflow into next year.
A reminder: If you see a guest come into a meeting, please encourage them to sign in and take some time to try and make them feel comfortable. We can be a bit scary to people who don't know us!
We are going to need to re order club shirts for new members. I will have order forms at the next few meetings. I will be ordering the royal blue for our club stock but I'd like to get another color, but we need at least 6 shirts of every color to order them. Also it would be a good time to think about ordering long sleeve T-shirts. There will be an order form for these also. They will come in just black or white. It worked out well before so lets stick with it.
Well that's all for me. Hope to see all of you out at our events in the next couple of months.

Hello to all CFCA:
Here are a few more ramblings from your Club Governor. At the last Governor's meeting on September 15th there were more representatives present at the meeting than one would have expected given the closeness to the events of that black day, September 11th.
I will list several of the main topics of discussion, with perhaps more to follow at a later time.
It seems that the computer age and its use is finally coming to NCCC Board members. They find that e-mail is working well and they are looking for more ways to increase its use.
The racers are again trying to bring to the table the issue of classification for the Z06 Corvettes. These cars are grouped with the standard C5's in their race classification. The group with the plain ole C5 cars is squealing and can't get anybody to listen. It would seem that all the good old boys with Z06 cars have made all the rules and do not want any changes.
The issue on whether to purchase a National Corvette Museum Lifetime Business Membership for NCCC was tabled again until next meeting (second time now). As one of those at the meeting stated, it seems nobody for sure knew the true cost of this membership (its $2500 dollars folks - ONE TIME, for LIFE). Even though most think that this issue will pass, I'm so disappointed in the group as a whole. At my last issuance of the treasury balance, NCCC had $444,000. For the National Council of Corvettes not being part of the support group for the NCM is inexcusable.
There was a 2003 National Convention proposal from Hagerstown, Maryland. As this was the only proposal made, it probably will be the chosen site. However, in true NCCC style the proposed date is just before the Carlisle event in late August. The Carlisle Corvette event is only the largest Corvette gathering in the U.S. A change of date may be forthcoming.
Another good ole boy fight may be at hand as several contenders are in the ring for National VP of Competition. One gentleman from the Road Runner Region (West) and the other from the Carolina Region (heavy racing country. Wonder if he has a Z06?). Other openings for Secretary, Business Manager, and Sergeant of Arms were not contested.
Another item of interest is that our northern neighbor club NFCA feels that they are in a good position to win National Club of the year, and are in the process of trying to gather as many points as they can. The cut off date for national points is December 15th and they are scheduling a 7-event autocross on that date. We have given them two sanctions to help their cause and wish them lots of luck.
One more thing. Have you visited the NCCC web site lately? Several of there pages swell with Red, White and Blue. I never though that tears would rise up looking at the NCCC web site. Please stay on the home page long enough to hear the music through. Also, take a look at the "Why you should join NCCC", again with music. The URL is www.corvettesnccc.org
What's that you say? Haven't been enough Corvette events to suit you lately?
Well folks, October will change that situation and then some! Take a look at just a few of the LOCAL events that are already scheduled for this month!!! If this isn't enough to keep you busy, you have a lot more free time than me!
Now, your biggest problem is deciding WHICH events to participate in. Ain't it great we have that problem?
Hutch

Ramblings from the Road
Rather than my usual ramblings this month, and given the tragic events of September 11th, I thought I'd offer some personal thoughts and observations.
I grew up on Long Island, fairly close to New York City, and as a kid remember the years of effort it took to construct the World Trade towers. If I remember correctly, it took nearly all of my high school years to complete.
Years later, back in the mid-80's, I relocated back to New York and for about 5 years worked in lower Manhattan's financial district just a few blocks from the WTC and Wall Street. Each day, I commuted from my home in New Jersey via the PATH trains in and out of the World Trade Center day after day. I've been to the observation deck and dined at Windows on the World at the very top of one of the towers. Breathtaking!
In 1992, I relocated to Florida… escaped from New York, as the movie title says. Shortly thereafter, I heard about the bombing of the WTC and shared that grief with many of my friends and associates back there.
Watching television this past September 11th was nearly unbearable. I still struggle to comprehend the sight of that landmark of America's strength reduced to rubble on that day.
I salute the stance America has taken to eradicate terrorism. I only hope it's both quick and ultimately possible. I applaud the new found unity in this country, and grieve for the victims of that fateful day. I cheer for the police, firefighters, and EMTs that labor endlessly pouring over the rubble, and cry for the families that lost their friends and loved ones.
'Til next month.
See you on the road.
